Functional Coverage

Functional coverage is a user-defined metric that tracks whether specific design scenarios, corner cases, and feature combinations have been exercised during simulation.

It is defined using covergroups and coverpoints in SystemVerilog. Unlike code coverage (which measures which lines ran), functional coverage measures what the design did — making it the more meaningful metric for DV sign-off.
